We strive to address the challenges facing the agricultural community, amplify the voice of every farmer, and ensure just policies and sustainable practices that safeguard the future of Indian agriculture.

50 Years

Celebrating the Golden Jubilee and Marching Ahead

Swathanthra Kisan Sangham proudly celebrates its Golden Jubilee, marking 50 years since its establishment in Kerala. The organization was formed on April 4, 1974, and has now completed 51 years of unwavering commitment to farmers' rights and agricultural reform. Though the official closing ceremony of the Golden Jubilee was initially planned for April, it was rescheduled due to Ramadan and by-elections. The final two-day celebration was held in Palakkad, beginning on October 31.

The Sangham was born during a turbulent period in Kerala's agrarian history—when farmers were being systematically exploited and sidelined, and even farmer organizations had lost their direction, becoming mere extensions of political parties. In such a climate, the creation of an independent and bold organization like Swathanthra Kisan Sangham was a revolutionary step. Though established under the patronage of the Indian Union Muslim League, the Sangham functions with full autonomy in addressing agricultural issues. We proudly declare ourselves as a supportive wing of the Muslim League, while also highlighting the League’s democratic vision in allowing us the freedom to act independently on matters concerning farmers.

The organization has played a significant role in securing many of the benefits and rights that Kerala’s farmers enjoy today. However, under the current administration, many of these hard-earned gains have been undermined or neglected. The Golden Jubilee celebration takes place at a time when there is a pressing need to revive and defend the agricultural sector, and when farmers must unite to launch powerful collective struggles for justice.

Even while writing this note, farmers from three different regions of the state have reported the government’s refusal to procure harvested paddy—highlighting the persistent negligence they face. It is a painful reminder of the challenges ahead. Our mission remains clear: to address the plight of farmers, to stand united, and to amplify their voices.

Swathanthra Kisan Sangham invites all farmer organizations to unite under this cause. Let us join hands to wipe away the tears of our farmers in this difficult era. The organization has also achieved national recognition, with preliminary groundwork completed in five states. By the end of this year, we hope to establish an extensive and structured national presence.

Together, we move forward—with courage, solidarity, and hope for a better future for every farmer in India.
